The RNLI was created in 1824 to save lives at sea and provides an on-call 24 hour lifeboat rescue service. On average there are 23 call-outs per day around the shores of the United Kingdom. In addition the RNLI provides a valuable seasonal lifeguard service.
The Birchington Support Group for the RNLI has been in existence for over 30 years and in that time the local band of volunteers have worked tirelessly to raise awareness and funds for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute.
Recently your local group have found that they are in need of more help but have found it difficult to find those willing to help and there is a chance that the group may flounder as a result.
We are sending out an SOS hoping that there are potential helpers out there who can revitalise and enhance the group with new ideas and enthusiasm. If you can spare an hour or two a year, or more time if possible, we would like to hear from you.
The type of activities carried out recently by the group include an annual street collection in Station Road, attending a silver band recital at the commemorative service on the Green at Minnis Bay as part of the annual fete, and a tea dance at the Village Centre.
Forthcoming events will appear in the events calendar and our AGM will take place at the Village Centre on the 25th February 2017 at 11am.
The RNLI is funded by voluntary contributions and relies on the goodwill and support of the British public.
